Background.
Ice Works is an endeavor begun by a professor with Collins College of Business. The initiative, and its logo, stemmed from a desire to involve undergraduates more in their field of study. The name went through many alterations, beginning with The Center, changing to The Ice Center, and finally settling on Ice Works. Ice is an acronym for innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship.

Early Version
Inspiration.
Because of the client's indecision when it came to the initiative's title, since positive connotations were a concern with any correlation to ICE, inspiration came from many places. For the final iterations, I built from the visuals of an ice cube and a more abstracted theme meant to show connection as well as collaboration in the business college.
Process.

Through communication with my summer internship supervisor, it became clear that jumping into illustrator each time the name was altered did not always lead to the most conceptually sound logos. I have learned through this project to consider the environment in which a logo will live; the look and feel of a logo, while important to be compelling, must align with that.
