Background.
Another logo request, this project was meant to highlight the artistry of stringed instruments and explore that history. The organization, 108 Contemporary, “is a non-profit community arts organization that supports Oklahoma’s contemporary fine craft artists by connecting them with audiences and opportunities through education, recognition, and exhibition programming.”
Inspiration.
Unique instrumental silhouettes as well as the over-arching musical theme created a variety of routes for exploration. The two final options were both built from notes or rests, drawn from sheet music.

Process.
The outline of a quarter rest is cast like a shadow from the violin’s shape, leaving positive and negative space in constant dialogue. Because this logo needed to be able to live in both web and print formats, simplicity seemed best to allow any content center stage. For the second variation, rests, notes, and clefs create a musical instrument.
